Sign now to stop Wellington City Council cutting its climate change funding.

We are in a climate crisis and at last year’s local government election the majority of people now sitting around the Council table campaigned on promises to take action on climate change. Despite this, only five months after the election, the Council is proposing significant cuts to its climate funding. These cuts will impact plans to reduce the Council's own emissions, the roll out of walking and cycling infrastructure, the programme that makes it safer for kids to walk and ride to school and more. These sorts of initiatives are getting results; last year the city’s emissions dropped 5%. If we are going to reach our goal of being Carbon Zero by 2050, we can’t cut climate funding in 2026 - sign the petition to show you oppose WCC’s proposed cuts.

Kia ora Mayor Andrew Little and Councillors,

I call on you not to cut Wellington City Council’s climate change response funding in this year’s annual plan.

We are in a climate crisis. We have seen evidence of this in the deadly climate change fuelled disasters that New Zealand has already suffered this year. Most of you campaigned at last year’s election promising to reduce emissions. Now is not the time to reduce climate change funding.

Our city has a proud history of leadership when it comes to climate change. Please continue demonstrating that leadership and scrap the proposed cuts.
