Aotearoa is part of a family of Pacific nations. Pacific people should be able to travel to Aotearoa and visit their friends and family without unfair barriers.

While thousands of visitors from countries like Germany and the United Kingdom currently enjoy the benefits of visa-free travel to Aotearoa, our Pacific neighbours aren’t extended the same benefits.

That means that Pacific visitors must apply for a visa to visit, and often see their visas unfairly declined. Data from one period in 2022 showed that more than half of the declined visitor visa applications came from just nine Pacific nations.

It’s clear that the Government trusts visitors from Europe but doesn’t trust visitors from our own Pacific neighbourhood.

Immigration Minister Erica Stanford can make the decision to grant visa-free travel for our Pacific neighbours – sign the petition to show your support for this change.

Kia ora Minister Stanford,

I call on you to ensure the Government extends visa-free travel to visitors from the Pacific Islands.

The Prime Ministers of Samoa, Fiji, and the Solomon Islands have all called on Aotearoa for change, and it’s time we removed these barriers.

It’s time to demonstrate that Aotearoa values our relationship with the Pacific, and start to build an immigration system that values community, connection, and fairness.

Please give certainty to our whānau, 'āiga and communities to visit Aotearoa New Zealand.
