This Christchurch Pride, Dr. Elizabeth Kerekere MP will lead a very special kōrero on the wonder and meaning of Matariki, inviting perspectives from a range of fabulous Takatāpui and Rainbow voices.

Panelists include:

• Jessica Niurangi MacLean (Ngāti Kahu, Ngāti Hine), Lecturer at Aotahi, University of Canterbury
• Siobhan Tumai (she/her) (Waikato Tanui and Ireland), Takatāpui activist, Māmā, and community worker living in Ōtautahi.

For Māori, Matariki is about appreciating and connecting with te taiao, a reminder that our tīpuna used the stars to navigate ocean voyages, planted and harvested crops based on lunar cycles, and even knew when fish were spawning or travelling, based on the phases of the moon.
