The Public Works Act 1981 was one of the key mechanisms which facilitated alienation of Māori land. While the total number of hectares acquired will never be known, Waitangi Tribunal reports state that Māori were discriminated against as a result of the legislation. Hūhana Lyndon's members bill amends the Public Works Act to ensure that Māori land cannot be taken without consent. We're asking you to email Minister Penk asking him to support the bill to Select Committee. The email button may take a minute to load - please be patient.
