Daman Kumar has grown up with his family in Aotearoa New Zealand for 18 years – since his birth. We know that he and many others deserve the right to stay connected to this place, and with their whānau.

Because of a law change in 2006, Daman is now liable to be deported any day from today to a country he has never set foot in, subject to a decision by Minister Chris Penk.

In Aotearoa, our Associate Minister for Immigration, gets to decide whether Daman Kumar is deported or gets to stay in the country he has called home for his entire life.

Daman is one of countless people who are settled in their communities yet have been failed by successive governments who have refused to provide an amnesty for overstayers and pathways to residency.

Through the efforts of our Immigration spokesperson Ricardo Menéndez March, the Green Party has successfully pressured the Associate Minister of Immigration, Chris Penk, to reconsider the case.

Help maintain pressure on him by sending an email to Chris Penk today to let him know you want Daman to stay!

We will keep working to help Daman and his family stay, while working on systemic solutions like an amnesty for overstayers and pathways to residency so that no one falls through the cracks.

Please share this page with others, so we can build the pressure to ensure Daman remains here with his family: https://www.greens.org.nz/help_daman
