Do we have the right learning support for our tamariki in school?

Catherine Delahunty

Thank you to the 417 individuals, families and groups who wrote powerful submissions on this issue. Every submission was unique and many were very moving. It is clear that there is huge inequality in the way in which school support operates or fails to operate for our students with learning differences.

Change is needed in terms of understanding, attitudes to learning differences and to state investment in an equitable system of screening and support. I look forward to hearing personally from 198 submitters in the next two months and hopefully achieving some useful changes for our children, families and schools.

Hearings on the Inquiry start on Nov 4 and will be held in Wellington, Christchurch and Auckland. Submitters wishing to be heard will be contacted by the Clerk of the Committee to make appointments.
