The official Green Party nomination for Bird of the Year is the Ngutu Pare Wrybill! We want you to get voting for our wee river champion, but we are asking for a little more from you this year.
In 2022 Luxon called on the public to support the Ngutu Pare Wrybill for Bird of the Year, but now, Christopher Luxon needs our help to save his very own Bird of the Year, the Ngutu Pare Wrybill, from his own Government’s fast-track legislation.
In opening up a pathway to projects that could accelerate climate change and destroy our rivers and natural waterways, Luxon is fast-tracking the decline of the Wrybill and other birds we champion year after year.
That is why we are calling for Luxon to stop the government’s fast track bill from prioritising development over environmental protection.
Join us in emailing Luxon to make this change now.
Two years ago, Luxon held a press conference calling on the public to support the Ngutu Pare Wrybill. Come 2024, Luxon’s words and actions do not add up. He was happy to participate in a competition aimed at raising awareness of species facing extinction but is now actively accelerating policies that could destroy the homes of the same bird he threw his support behind.
The Wrybill lives in our braided river systems, which are rare ecological hotspots. Yet, their homes are at risk from this Government’s anti-environment agenda, through actions such as the Fast-Track legislation.
