Any week now the KiwiRail Board will be deciding whether to keep or scrap our electric trains. That's why we're taking a message to Parliament next Wednesday.
Just months ago our state-owned rail company was set to switch their North Island Main Trunk Line locomotives to diesel. But emails from 4,000 people like you to KiwiRail CEO Peter Reidy made them reconsider.
Upgrading our electric trains is an option on the table. But, under pressure from the National Government, KiwiRail are still favouring diesel.

I recently learned that China CNR Corporation (the company that KiwiRail would be buying their diesel trains from) are producing five new electric locomotives for every one diesel engine. China is clearly zooming away from dirty transport. Why is New Zealand buying up the leftovers?
