Consumer choice? Tick. Consumer protection? Tick. Not hard to see who would oppose this.

One of the issues, in terms of human rights and false country of origin labelling, is that goods manufactured in illegal Israeli apartheid settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem (settlements are built illegally on stolen Palestinian land) are often falsely labelled “Made in Israel.” For example, Ahava Dead Sea Beauty products and Carmel wines. These products should not be allowed to be imported into NZ. And even though Sodastream has moved to the Negev (where it continues to violate international law and profit from ethnic cleansing) its products on the shelves in shops in NZ, are still those manufactured over a year ago in an illegal settlement in the West Bank, with false country of origin labelling. As the recent UN resolution last night clarifies, Gaza, the West Bank and East Jerusalem are under Israeli military occupation but are not part of Israel. So I support the bill for country of origin labelling, and it should be made clear that it is unacceptable to label any product as “Made in Israel” if it is made in illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank or occupied East Jerusalem.
